SCRIPTURE
Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administering God's grace in its various forms. (1 Peter 4:10)
OBSERVATION
Scripture says that each of us are given different gifts to benefit the body of Christ. We all play different roles, but work together to edify the body. The purpose of our gifting is to serve the body of Christ. This is not new, but rather a repeated and significant theme.
APPLICATION
Because this scripture has a repetitive theme, we should pay special attention. God has uniquely designed and gifted each one of us to play our own part in building up the church. We need to begin to step out in faith and operate more in the gifts of the Spirit as well as in the talents that the Lord has blessed us with for the benefit of the church.
PRAYER
Lord, I know you've given me my own special talents and gifts that you want me to use to build up, encourage, and minister to your people. I pray that you would give me the strength and boldness to begin stepping out in faith and operating in these giftings on a more regular basis.
Amen.

Called To Action
SCRIPTURE
I, the Lord, have called you in righteousness...(7)To open the eyes that are blind, to free the captives from prison and to release from the dungeon those who sit in darkness. (Isaiah 42:7)
OBSERVATION
This is a powerful scripture! The Lord has called us as believers into action, to reach in to the clutches of darkness and free those from the captivity of the enemy and to make those blind in the darkness of this world, to see.
APPLICATION
In verse 6, it says that God will take hold of our hand and keep us as we (6) free the captives and make the blind to see. We live in a world where the enemy does everything in his power to keep the light of the Word of God, the light of Christ, from reaching the spiritually blind. He does everything in his power to keep the truth of the Word of God from setting the captives free! God has called us to play a role in standing against the enemy to bring His truth and this light to the Lost that we come in contact with.
PRAYER
Father, I pray that you would give us strength as believers to do just that. Strength to stand against the enemy and his schemes so that we may bring light to the spiritually blind, and to bring the truth of your Word to those held captive in darkness because the truth will set them free! I thank you that you said you will hold our hand as we step out in obediance and do what you have asked us to do.
Amen.

Unworthy Yet Able
SCRIPTURE
But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light. (1 Peter 1:9)
OBSERVATION
This scripture is full! We're God's chosen people, those who he has called out of the darkness of sin and death into the eternal light! We belong to God, as his own sons and daughters, and he calls us a Royal Priesthood!
APPLICATION
As sons and daughters, and as priests, we have direct access to the throne of God! In the Old Testament, Priests were the only ones who were able to enter the presence of the Lord. They made sacrifices and offerings on behalf of the people. It is the most amazing privilege that we now have, as priests, and as children of God, to be able to come into the "Most Holy Place" or the presence of God! We no longer have to wait for the Priest to act on our behalf to make requests or to ask for forgiveness! We have the right!
PRAYER
Father,
Thank you for making a way. Thank you for allowing us the opportunity to come before you, into your presence, any time. We're so undeserving and unworthy, but because you gave your son, we've been made worthy in your eyes. What can we say, but, "Thank You!"
Amen

Eternal Truth
SCRIPTURE
But the Word of the Lord stands forever. (1 Peter 1:25)
OBSERVATION
God's Word not only exists, but stands, and stands for eternity.
APPLICATION
In light of the outpouring of the spirit that we've seen over the past couple of weeks, this scripture is exciting! There's been a healing flow of the spirit sweeping our church and it is because God's Word is eternal! Christ came to give us life, and life more abundantly (Jn. 10:10) and if you're sick, that's not abundant life. Christ sent his disciples to heal the sick and cast out demons (Mt. 10:1). Since God is the same Yesterday, Today, and Forever (Heb. 13:8), and since His Word is eternal, this IS for us today! The truth of the eternal Word of God brings freedom from illness, bondage, depression, etc. Get in the word, know the truth, that you may be set free!
PRAYER
Father, I pray that your church would grasp the Truth of your Unwavering Word! I pray that we would see your heart and that the Truth of your Word would bring freedom to your children. Amen.

Be Still My Heart
SCRIPTURE
Isaiah 35:3-4
3 Strengthen the feeble hands,
steady the knees that give way;
4 say to those with fearful hearts,
"Be strong, do not fear;
your God will come,
he will come with vengeance;
with divine retribution
he will come to save you."
OBSERVATION
There will come a day when justice will arrive. On this day, the weak will be made strong, the poor made rich, the blind made to see. The day of the Lord will settle all accounts, and for all those who have been unjustly oppressed, their oppressors will be crushed and freedom will be granted.
In many ways, this day is already here, but in many other ways, it is not. Jesus has come and ushered in a new era, and all around us are signs of His present Kingdom. But His Kingdom is also coming. It is here, but it is not yet here in all its fullness. What has been promised in that great day in the future, echoes now in the present, but its expression is imperfect. Today, the fullness has not yet come, but at the same time, it is available to those who have faith and believe.
APPLICATION
The Lord is on His way and so I say to my heart today, "continue to trust and be faithful." Though I am surrounded by injustice — trust and be faithful. Though I do not understand all that happens — trust and be faithful. I will say to myself, "self, do not be moved, do not put your eyes on that which would cause fear and distress, but put your eyes on Jesus." Today I will be strong in the Lord, because He strengthens those who are weak.
PRAYER
Lord, every fear I give to You today. Every concern and anxiety, I turn over to You. You are big enough to deal with all and Your justice will prevail. Everywhere I feel I have been wronged, I release my right for justice and I place it in Your hands. Every area where I feel lack, I will trust you for your fullness. Lord, I wait on You today because You are the God who IS and who IS COMING! Amen.

Relying on God's Strength First
SCRIPTURE
Isaiah 31:1 NIV
Woe to those who go down to Egypt for help,
who rely on horses,
who trust in the multitude of their chariots
and in the great strength of their horsemen,
but do not look to the Holy One of Israel,
or seek help from the LORD.
OBSERVATION
Israel was warned not to rely on the military or political power of Egypt because even though they were strong, it is only God who could be their true help. Relying on human strength or on political alliances is a slap in God's face — He was the only One who was to be Israel's security.
APPLICATION
What things in my life do I look to for support and help before God? Anywhere I look to for strength and support that does not come from God's hand, is outside of God's desire for my life. Whether it would be personal wisdom, relying on others (trust in man), looking to book knowledge — all of this may be good, but if it is not from God, then it is no good for me.
PRAYER
Lord, show me every place where I have decided to lean on human strength and wisdom instead of relying on You. Help me to choose You, and to not look anywhere else. Every time I am faced with challenge, Lord help me to look to you. Amen.

SCRIPTURE
Isaiah 26:3
You will keep him in perfect peace,
Whose mind is stayed on You,
Because he trusts in You.
OBSERVATION
So often I find that my mental world is at turmoil. I start to think about finances, the needs of my family, the future, work that needs to be done, and I find myself full of anxiety and worry. Instead of experiencing God's peace, I instead experience unrest. If I try to go to sleep in this state, then my mind races and I toss and turn. But this verse says that there is a way to obtain peace — it is by placing our mind on Christ!
Paul, echoes this verse in Philippians 4:7 — And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
APPLICATION
Today, I will focus on you, Lord. I will decide to TRUST you. I will believe that You big enough and that you care enough to take care of me, my family, my work and my future. I will "stay my mind on You" because you are trustworthy and You never fail. Today, I will decide not to rehearse the worries and concerns. I will be aware of them, certainly, but I will not dwell on them as if by doing so I can do anything about them. Instead, I will turn my worries into prayers that I will lift to You and allow You to carry.
PRAYER
Lord, today I lay aside every worry and concern, every burden that I cannot carry by myself, and I focus on You — Your goodness, Your mercy, Your love, Your kindness and Your hope. Amen.

SCRIPTURE
Hebrews 12:14
Make every effort to live in peace with all men and to be holy; without holiness no one will see the Lord.
OBSERVATION
In the previous chapter of Hebrews, the author encouraged us to do everything by faith. Here, we are reminded that we must also be diligent in our walk with Christ. We are exhorted to "make every effort to live in peace" and "to be holy." I am always struck by the last phrase here, "without holiness no one will see the Lord." It is clear that holiness must be combined with faith and one must be combined with the other for the disciple of Christ. Often we end up emphasizing one and de-emphasizing the other. But both must be held up.
APPLICATION
For me, this means that I must constantly and consistently look at every area of my life and make a decision to stay holy. I cannot simply "live by faith" and ignore my responsibility to keep myself clean and pure. At the same time, I know that faith is required for me in order to live a holy life, because it is impossible for me to do so simply by an act of will. I must combine my faith with a strong and willful decision to keep myself clean. That means relentlessly removing from my life those things which are unclean, whether it is keeping myself from reading and watching things that are unclean, keeping my thoughts from straying into the gutters of life, guarding my financial decisions from any areas that might be questionable in terms of the ethical uprightness, keeping my mouth from speaking ANY forms of lies and deceit, making sure that every transaction with others is above board, and on and on.
PRAYER
Lord, make me aware of those areas of my life where I have compromised my holiness. Put a guard on my eyes and on my lips. Sensitize me to those things areas where I have lost my sensitivity because of the muck of the world. Preserve me in holiness, Lord!

By Faith
SCRIPTURE
Hebrews 11:1
Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.
OBSERVATION
I love that todays reading is Hebrews chapter 11. What an incredible chapter! How can you even pick just one verse out of this chapter? As I read this chapter today I am overcome with a sense of how faith must characterize EVERYTHING we do. If we consider ourselves as belonging to another country — that far and beautiful country — then we must choose to every day walk by faith. This is what the great men and women of faith did — they lived by faith — and this is what we must do.
APPLICATION
So often we are not sure of what God wants us to do, and frequently He simply wants us to step out in faith. We are paralyzed waiting for an answer when more often then not, He has already given us an indication in our heart but we are unwilling to step out IN FAITH and just do it.
Today, I am committing once again to be a man of faith. I chose not to be filled with doubt, and second guess what I believe God has told me, but rather to continue to step forward and to continue to trust.
PRAYER
Lord, you've given me a measure of faith — just as you have given to everyone a measure of faith — help me to actually USE mine!

First Spark: Faith
SCRIPTURE
Hebrews 10:32
Think back on those early days when you first learned about Christ. Remember how you remained faithful even though it meant terrible suffering.
OBSERVATION
I must remember that first spark of my first love and Father. He will never leave me nor forsake me.
APPLICATION
This scripture reminds me not only to keep my faith but that I am never alone.
PRAYER
Heavenly Father, help me to remember that first spark of my first love no matter the situation or the circumstance. You are the arms that hold me; the peace that comforts me.

SCRIPTURE
Hebrews 9:15
For this reason Christ is the mediator of a new covenant, that those who are called may receive the promised eternal inheritance - now that he has died as a ransom to set them free from the sins committed under the first covenant.
OBSERVATION
Thank you Jesus! We were "CALLED" by our sovereign Lord to receive his eternal inheritance, but in order to receive this "Inheritance", not only did there have to be a Covenant, or "Will", written up, but the one the will was written for had to die in order for it to take effect.
Jesus died so we could experience this blessing. But there are conditions to receiving it. The most important thing we must do to our inheritance is to have a HEART connection with Jesus, not just lip service and occasional good deeds. Like any will that is written for a worldly family, there are conditions that have to be met before the heirs to that will can receive anything. The same is true for receiving God's Inheritance. God is the one who sets the rules, but we have to make the decision whether will receive it or not. If we accept it, then we will obey God's commands and adopt his ways as our ways, deny ourselves, take up our cross and follow him daily. We reject it by being disobedient and unfaithful to God.
APPLICATION
Jesus didn't die so we could go on living lives as we did before we knew him. Our hearts have changed and they changed because of his glory. He wants to have a relationship with us. If we would just surrender our hearts to his calling, then we would begin to experience freedom from our sins, and the hope of his calling. Daily come to him and experience his salvation from the bondages of life and get to know your Daddy.
PRAYER
Father God, We know what your word says about how we know those who are in Christ Jesus, and that is by their fruit. Help us to see, oh God, every waking moment of every day living in your spirit. Are we full of Love, Joy, Peace, Patience, Kindness, Goodness, Faithfulness, Gentleness, and Self control? If not, Lord please quicken us to submit to your calling so we too can rest in your eternal inheritance.

Hebrews 8:10
"This is the covenant I will make with the house of Israel after that time, declares the Lord. I will put my laws in their minds and write them on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be my people."
OBSERVATION
I am thankful that When God made this covenant with believers, His laws were written on our hearts. Therefore we have knowledge of the laws so we are obedient to His word so we can come before God as His people.
APPLICATION
Daily I need to keep my lifeline connected to God and be in His word and in prayer to honor the covenant He has made with me.
PRAYER
Lord help me to be the man that you have called me to be, and to honor the blood that Christ shed for me. Your covenant is written on my heart, and I pray that with this covenant I can help others to understand who You are and the gift You gave us on Calvary. Thank You for the gift of Love, May those who don't know You begin to understand who You are and experience the gift of salvation.

SCRIPTURE
2 Chronicles 26:16-18 (The Message)
But then the strength and success went to his head. Arrogant and proud, he fell. One day, contemptuous of GOD, he walked into The Temple of GOD like he owned it and took over, burning incense on the Incense Altar. The priest Azariah, backed up by eighty brave priests of GOD, tried to prevent him. They confronted Uzziah: "You must not, you cannot do this, Uzziah—only the Aaronite priests, especially consecrated for the work, are permitted to burn incense. Get out of God's Temple; you are unfaithful and a disgrace!"
OBSERVATION
When we are given power or wealth, our pride can lead to corruption and we look down on others, even God.
APPLICATION
We need to realize everything we have has been given from God for His glory.
PRAYER
Lord Help me to realize that everything I have comes from you and that you have all the authority. May I always be grateful for what you have given me and may I use it in a way that is pleasing to you.

SCRIPTURE
Hebrews 6:1 – So let us stop going over the basic teachings about Christ again and again. Let us go on instead and mature in our understanding. Surely we don’t need to start again with the fundamental importance of repenting from evil deeds and placing our faith in God.
OBSERVATION
In the board game of "Aggravation", when your opponent knocks you out of the game, you have to go to the beginning and start again. I am thankful that God simply wants me to pick myself up when I am knocked down and keep moving forward.
APPLICATION
Today is a brand new day with all new adventures and challenges on my road to mature understanding. No need to live in the past.
PRAYER
Lord, help me to move forward today in the direction you have called me to go!! Lord, help me to be all that you want me to be. Wow, I feel the load being lifted already. Thank you, Lord.

SCRIPTURE
Hebrews 6:13, 14
Anyone who lives on milk, being still an infant, is not acquainted with the teaching about righteousness. But solid food is for the mature, who by constant use have trained themselves to distinguish good from evil.
OBSERVATION
I am so thankful that through walking with God, my heart is tugged on by God. As an infant Christian I was not sure between good and evil. As time with God continues, so does my understanding of the Christian life. God will speak to me through my conscious and that is a great thing. My understanding of God and His word has grown and I enjoy the meat.
APPLICATION
I just went to Promise Keepers a few days ago, I was challenged and convicted not to settle for being a (Good Christian). Instead be a Sold Out Man of God in every part and every area of my life. (Grow Up and Eat from God’s Menu!!)
PRAYER
Lord, thank you for the sour stomach you gave me from staying on the infant milk too long. As I continue to eat from your menu I pray my whole body, mind and spirit will line up with your will. In Jesus name Amen.

SCRIPTURE
Titus 2:12 (New Living Translation)
And we are instructed to turn from godless living and sinful pleasures. We should live in this evil world with wisdom, righteousness, and devotion to God
OBSERVATION
Is God pleased with me? Is He proud of me? Does my heart match my life(my lustful nature) or am I no more than a present day "Pharisee"? Sobering questions and eternal bondage for the weak of mind and the ignorant for change. The word "instructed" is saying "God disciplining us." The only way we can come even close to living in righteousness (Godly) is to submit to the righteous(God). We are called to live in this world and it's god, in my God's conditions as righteous as His Son did. We are not called to try and change the world but to change our understanding of our hearts and lives.
APPLICATION
I need to understand more! More about who I am and who I am called to be. At first this may seem to be a pretty deep study, but God calls us to be the "image of Christ". Well now, this breaks it down for me into a simpler way to think. All I have to do is read the book of "instruction", my Bible, and compare it to my life, over and over and over again. The only way for me to truly change to living in righteousness is to take a sober look and understand who I am in Christ and who I am in the world. As I open my heart (life) to the Holy Spirit and leave it open for Him, I will be discipled by God.
PRAYER
Holy Spirit fill my thoughts from my heart where you dwell. Instruct me the ways of righteousness so I may live a life that is pleasing to God.

Greater Than Great
SCRIPTURE
Hebrews 1: 1 God, who at various times and in various ways spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets, 2 has in these last days spoken to us by His Son, whom He has appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the worlds; 3 who being the brightness of His glory and the express image of His person, and upholding all things by the word of His power, when He had by Himself purged our sins, sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high, 4 having become so much better than the angels, as He has by inheritance obtained a more excellent name than they
OBSERVATION
After reading something like that, all a person can say is WOW!
What a God we serve. He loved us so much He sent His son to communicate to us His great compassion. In times past it was different but at the right time His son came and revealed
‘in person’ the truth about the Father.
WOW! Who are we that Jesus should do that? After all, He is appointed heir of all things.
Listen to His credentials from Paul: He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For by him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things were created by him and for him. He is before all things, and in him all things hold together.
And he is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything he might have the supremacy. Col 1:15-18 WOW!
APPLICATION
If I ever had any doubt about who is in control or who should be in control, that doubt is answered by knowing who Jesus is. He has been given a name that is above every name and deserves to be in control of our universe, our world, our nation, our state and our lives.
May we truly become once again a nation UNDER GOD and a people who surrender to His will. If this happens, the 4th of July will become a true celebration.
PRAYER
Father, how great is your love for us. I can’t fathom it but I choose to accept it. You are my reason for living and I want to be pleasing to you today. Help me glorify your son’s name through my daily activities and choices. All I can say when I think of you is WOW!

Friends Are Forever
SCRIPTURE
Philem. 1:1 ¶ Paul, a prisoner of Christ Jesus, and Timothy our brother, ¶ To Philemon our dear friend and fellow worker,
Philem. 1:2 to Apphia our sister, to Archippus our fellow soldier and to the church that meets in your home:
Philem. 1:3 ¶ Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
Philem. 1:4 ¶ I always thank my God as I remember you in my prayers,
OBSERVATION
Have you ever noticed that Paul the Apostle often made reference to his friends when he wrote a letter? It happens frequently and this letter is no exception. This book is actually addressed to a dear friend named Philemon.
Friends - are a gift from the Lord!
Good friends are hard to find but when you actually discover a good friend who wants to walk in close relationship, you have discovered a treasure.
Friends - are like tributaries - Not only do they carry worth but they also deposit valuable assets into a person life. Tributaries create great rivers. From all directions, those tributaries contribute to a river, feeding and making it grow. That sounds like the way people grow too - when they open up to the contribution from others.
Friends can speak into our lives and when these friends have the fruit of the Spirit, recorded in Galatians chapter 5, we become better people.
Remember: The company you keep will determine the path you take. 1 Cor. 15:33
APPLICATION
What kind of a friend are you to the people in your world? When they spend time with you, do they leave enriched? Encouraged? Edified? One person said: I enjoy all people - some when they come and others when they leave. When you carry with you the fruit of the Holy Spirit, you will be a friend who is enjoyed at all times. Today let’s surrender to the leading of the Holy Spirit and follow His directives. Galatians 5 tells us that when we do this, HE will produce the fruit that will provide the foundation for lasting relationships.
Remember: Friends are forever when they are rooted in Christ.
PRAYER
Father, help us to grow in our love for each other. Let us see how important people really are and may we become the friends that will enrich the lives of others.

Our Past is Gone
SCRIPTURE
Titus 3:3 ¶ Once we, too, were foolish and disobedient. We were misled by others and became slaves to many wicked desires and evil pleasures. Our lives were full of evil and envy. We hated others, and they hated us.
Titus 3:4 ¶ But then God our Savior showed us his kindness and love.
Titus 3:5 He saved us, not because of the good things we did, but because of his mercy. He washed away our sins and gave us a new life through the Holy Spirit.
Titus 3:6 He generously poured out the Spirit upon us because of what Jesus Christ our Savior did.
Titus 3:7 He declared us not guilty because of his great kindness. And now we know that we will inherit eternal life. NLT
OBSERVATION
Have you ever viewed at an old photograph of yourself and felt embarrassed because of the way you looked? If you are like me you may have wondered how anyone could let themselves dress and look that way.
Verse 3 is like an old picture of you and me before Christ took up residence in our lives. We weren’t a pretty sight.
The next few verses, (4-7) however, reveal that God has set himself to do an extreme make over for all those who will respond to His kindness and love. He begins to transform them from the inside out. He pours His Spirit into them and the process of change begins. Old things pass away and new things begin to appear (2 Corinthians 5:17) Gradually, if not suddenly, we begin to look different. Our attitude changes, our actions are altered, our motives become pure and our lives are filled with a new purpose. Just think, all this happens because of God’s kindness and love. It didn’t have anything to do with our goodness or performance. Thank you Jesus for salvation.
APPLICATION
I don’t plan on throwing my old embarrassing pictures away any time soon. (Yes I have some old albums with many - not so pretty pictures) I am making a conscious decision to keep them! Why, you may ask? Because when I look at my past, I remember where I came from and that creates a gratefulness for how far I have come. It tells me that change is possible.
I will not forget my B.C. days either because they remind me of God’s great love for me.
I may not be what I ought to be but I sure am not what I use to be - All because of His kindness and love. Romans 5:8
PRAYER
Jesus, I thank you for your grace and love. It is you kindness and mercy that has changed me. May I look more like you as I continue to grow in your holiness. You are beautiful.

Truth vs. Tradition
SCRIPTURE
Titus 2:1 ¶ You must teach what is in accord with sound doctrine.
OBSERVATION
I remember a history teacher in high school who would not deviate from the facts of the past. He said many teachers try to rewrite history but the best way to learn is to stick to the truth - even though it may hurt. That is the principle taught here! There are those, however who teach a philosophy that originates in man and not on sound doctrine. The Pharisees were one such group. They were recognized as teachers but they taught their traditions at the expense of truth. (See 2 Tim 315-17)
Mark 7:8 ¶ For you ignore God’s specific laws and substitute your own traditions.”
Mark 7:9 ¶ Then he said, “You reject God’s laws in order to hold on to your own traditions.
Mark 7:13 As such, you break the law of God in order to protect your own tradition. And this is only one example. There are many, many others.”
When you seek to follow Jesus, make sure you are seeking for truth and not traditions. Truth is the only thing that will set you free. John 8:3.
APPLICATION
James 3:1 makes it clear that teachers are held to a very high standard. If you desire to be a teacher of His Word, you must come to God with an attitude of submission. You must be willing to adjust your lifestyle to truth and not try to adjust truth to your lifestyle. When you do this, freedom begins to happen - For us and others…
PRAYER
Lord, help us to be receptive to truth even though it may hurt at times.
