The Tongue

SCRIPTURE
Proverbs 15:1-2, 4, 7, 28 (1) A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger. (2) The tongue of the wise commends knowledge, but the mouth of the fool gushes folly. (4) The tongue that brings healing is a tree of life, but a deceitful tongue crushes the spirit. (7) The lips of the wise spread knowledge; not so the hearts of fools. (28) The heart of the righteous weighs its answers, but the mouth of the wicked gushes evil.

OBSERVATION
Wow! In just this one chapter of Proverbs are all of these cautionary words about how we use our tongue. And, of course, this same topic is covered in so many other places in the Bible. Is it any wonder? It must mean that it's a topic we need to hear from God about over and over and over again, until it sinks in. Or does it ever? I love to read the verses that address what I need to work on in my life because they are good reminders and keep me on track.

APPLICATION
Okay, Sylvia, here's another verse for you to put on a 3X5 card (I'm going to run out of room for all of these cards). A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger. Check your words before they leave your lips. Do they build up or tear down? Do they encourage or discourage? Are they words God would use or are they of man? We can do more damage with what we say than in any other fashion. Likewise, we can certainly build people up and encourage and love.

PRAYER
Lord, I choose love. Please keep Your words on my lips. Remind me, Holy Spirit, to think before I speak. Amen.

How to Be Saved

SCRIPTURE
Romans 10:9-10 That if you confess with you mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved.

OBSERVATION
Sometimes we make salvation a complicated thing particularly when we are explaining it to the unsaved or to children. As I read Romans 10:9-10 I thought, "How simple is this?" Confess and believe. I love the last sentence - with our heart we believe and with our mouth we confess and are saved. I've added so many other sentences to these simple truths even when leading someone in a salvation prayer.

APPLICATION
I want to make salvation as simple as possible for any who desire to KNOW the Lord. I'm going to memorize these two scriptures and keep them in the back of my mind so that I don't make it too complicated for anyone.

PRAYER
Thank you Lord for your word and for the opportunity to learn more and more each time we delve in. I pray you will continue to give me opportunities to share the simple truths of You with others. Amen.

Do Not Swerve

SCRIPTURE
Proverbs 4: 24-27 Put away perversity from your mouth; keep corrupt talk far from your lips. Let your eyes look straight ahead, fix your gaze directly before you. Make level paths for your feet and take only ways that are firm. Do not swerve to the right or to the left; keep your foot from evil.

OBSERVATION
There are several places in the Bible that are so direct about how to live life or how not to live life. They are like a 'how to' for life. Proverbs is one such place. I read these verses not only for myself, but to refer to in teaching my children. God gives specifics in these verses about how we are to talk, where we are to look, where we are to walk. He has a specific path for us. It is a path that leads to a prosperous, fulfilling life. He wants the best for us. If we stay on that path and do not swerve to the right or the left, we will benefit greatly and have more of what God wants for us in this life. I love how this chapter ends - 'keep your foot from evil'.

APPLICATION
I need to remember that God watches and hears my every action and word. That when I swerve to the left or right of his righteousness, I am stumbling along. It is not what God wants. I need to guard my words, my eyes, my ears and my steps very closely. I want what God wants.

PRAYER
Lord, keep me on Your path for my life. Help me to think before I speak or act. Help me to find opportune moments to pass this wisdom on to my loves ones. Amen.

Who Will Rescue Me?

SCRIPTURE
Romans 7:21-25 So I find this law at work: When I want to do good, evil is right there with me. For in my inner being I delight in God's law; but I see another law at work in the members of my body, waging war against the law of my mind and making me a prisoner of the law of sin at work within my members. What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body of death? Thanks be to God-through Jesus Christ our Lord!

OBSERVATION
I love these verses! They describe so clearly the war within each of us. The war between flesh and spirit. I can relate to the part that says "when I want to do good, evil is right there with me". But interestingly, it goes on to describe the war of our minds, making us prisoners of sin within our body. The daily battle between good and evil; between our old self and the new self, redeemed by the blood of our Saviour.

The end of this section then appropriately, and in exasperation, screams out "what a wretched man I am (or woman, in my case)! Who will rescue me from this body of death? And, of course, it is our Superhero, Jesus. And I also love that the scripture ends with "thanks be to God".

This is the most human of all segments of the Bible to me; the one we can all relate to on a daily basis.

APPLICATION
So what do I do with this? What's the key here? Awareness. The spiritual battle going on for my very soul and spirit is a very real one. One one side, Satan and my fleshly, sinful self. On the other - the victorious side - JESUS. We know who wins in the end. But, daily I must fight on Jesus' side - the side of righteousness and holiness. I must strive to be more like Jesus each day, reaching for perfection even when I know I can never be.

PRAYER
Father in heaven, help me to be alert and ready each and every day to fight the good fight - not only for myself but for others as well. Thanks be to God - for Jesus! Amen.

YOU CAN'T WORK ENOUGH OVERTIME!

SCRIPTURE
(Romans 4:4-5) "Now to the one who works, his wage is not reckoned as a fovor, but as what is due. But to the one who does not work, but believes in Him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is reckoned as righteousness."

OBSERVATION
There is an ever present negative belief that has been passed down most likely due to our human nature. The only way God can be pleased with me is if I do lot's of good things to work off the penalty for my sins. Paul addresses the Roman church on this false belief. No amount of work will justify you before God, only belief in Jesus Christ.

APPLICATION
There is nothing wrong with doing good things and serving God in ministry outreaches. Romans 12 says this is spiritual worship. But if your motivation is to gain favor with God your actions are an exercise in futility. You can't work enough overtime to impress God.

PRAYER
Lord, I can only walk and serve in the cleansing, justifying work of Your Son Jesus Christ. Let my service to You be from a pure heart and a desire to worship.

SO WHAT GOOD IS A GODLY HERITAGE?

SCRIPTURE
(Romans 3:1-2) "Then what advantage has the Jew? Or what is the benefit of circumcision? Great in every respect. First of all, that they were entrusted with the oracles of God."

OBSERVATION
Paul spent most of his missionary journeys telling people that being a jew or living by the law is not what gains you entrance into heaven. It is the blood of Jesus. So what good is it to be one of the chosen people through the promises to Abraham? They were entrusted with the law which Jesus came to fulfill. Without their faithfulness and sacrifice, none of us would have the relationship with God that we do.

APPLICATION
Hebrews 12:1 says we have a cloud of witnesses that have gone before us. To be a bearer of the truth is to be a part of the collective family of God throughout the ages. Your part enables future generations of converts access to the kingdom of God. What an awesome opportunity you have because of your heritage.

PRAYER
Lord, give me eyes to see Your eternal perspective and not my immediate limited view.

ONE FINGTER FORWARD, THREE POINTING BACK!

SCRIPTURE
(Romans 2:3) "And do you suppose this, O man, when you pass judgement upon those who practice such things and do the same yourself, that you will escape the judgement of God?"

OBSERVATION
In this discourse Paul is pointing out principles for righteous living. He warns how easy it is to become self-righteous and judge others for the wrong that they do without accounting for our own indiscretions. God says if we remain stubborn or unrepentant for our actions, He is storing up wrath for us in the day of judgement.

APPLICATION
Do not take lightly the instructions of Paul in this letter. Many will try to contextualize the meaning of these words and compromise their application as irrelevant for contemporary society. This is a dangerous practise that will have eternal consequences. There is nothing that is hidden from God. Be careful with pointing a judemental finger at someone else, there are three pointing back at you.

PRAYER
Lord, I don't want to be judgemental in my assessments of situations, but I do want discernment to give corrective instructions in regards to sinful behaviors. Give me Your thoughts and Your heart as I face each daily challenge.

OPEN YOUR MOUTH AND SAY AHHHHHH!

SCRIPTURE
(Romans 1:24&25) "Therefore God gave them over in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, that their bodies might be dishonored among them. For they exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshipped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever."

OBSERVATION
The letter to the Romans is a manual on godly life principles. Paul is saying here that perceived wise men are fools because they have made the creation central over Him. God will give us over to mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual deprevation if we place our hope in anything other than him.

APPLICATION
People often come to my counseling office wanting sympathy for their physical and relational state of being. They also often resent the attempt to correlate their state of being with self-gratification motivations. Many are looking for an empathetic ear to somehow sanctify their sins and make their discomfort go away. If we don't return to the centrality of serving Christ, our health prognosis doesn't look so good. So just as the physical doctor asks you to open your mouth so they can inspect for obvious problems, we may need to open our spiritual mouths and say ahhhhhhh to the great physician for His prognosis.

PRAYER
Lord, I want to maintain godly wisdom and spiritual health by seeking after Your will and worshipping You daily.

WHO'S YOUR FRIEND?

SCRIPTURE
(II Thess. 3:6) "Now we command you, brethren, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you keep aloof from every brother who leads an unruly life and not according to the tradition which you received from us."

OBSERVATION
Paul has been giving the church instructions on how to live a holy life. He commands them to stay away from people who profess to be believers but are leading undisciplined lives. David says in Psalms 101:7, "He who practices deceit shall not dwell within My house; He who speaks falsehood shall not maintain his position before Me." Those whom you associate with will affect your thoughts, behavior and eventual eternity.

APPLICATION
There is a tendency in human nature to adapt to our surroundings to survive. When you closely associate with those who are compromising their faith through their actions, it is not long before you will be the compromiser. A question to ask yourself on your walk of faith is, "who's your friend?"

PRAYER
Lord, I want my ways and those I associate with to exalt Your name and advance Your kingdom.

"YOU HAVE CHOSEN WISELY!"

SCRIPTURE
(I Kings 3:9&10) "So give Thy servant an Understanding heart to judge Thy people to discern between good and evil. For who is able to judge this great people of Thine? And it was pleasing in the sight of the Lord that Solomon had asked this thing."

OBSERVATION
Solomon had what could be considered a blank check, so to speak, from the creator of the universe! He could have anything he asked for. It was pleasing to God that he asked for a discerning heart. The condition or motivation of your heart determines the direction of your actions. Where is your heart taking you today?

APPLICATION
Proverbs 4:23 says, "watch over your heart with all diligence, for from it flow the springs of life." Each of us must chose to govern our heart, but God gives wisdom and direction if we ask for it. Great blessings were added to Solomon because he chose wisely. Will every choice you make today give glory and honor to God? It's your choice!

PRAYER
God, I want to be a man of wisdom and integrity. Let the condition of my heart and the meditation of my thoughts always be pleasing in Your sight.

Searching For The Best

SCRIPTURE
I know, my God, that You test the heart and are pleased with integrity.
1 Chronicles 29:17

OBSERVATION
David had given instruction for building the temple.  After the people had given generously to this effort, he was praying and telling God that he knew He tested the hearts of the people and was pleased with their honesty and sincerity.

APPLICATION
In my life, I need to be sincere and honest before the Lord in all things.  I need to let the Lord test and search my heart to reveal the imperfections so that He help me in being the best possible Christian for Him.

PRAYER
Lord, as Your Word says --- Search me, Oh God, and know my thought and my heart.  See if there be any wicked way in me.  Help me to always be honest, sincere and upright before You.  Amen.

Take Responsibility for your Children

SCRIPTURE
1Chronicles 27:32
Jehonathan, David's uncle, was a counselor, a man of insight and a scribe. Jehiel, son of Hacmoni, took care of the king's sons.

OBSERVATION
David appointed someone to take of his sons instead of being the father he needed to be. He thought his sons would be taken care of, but as we know from his encounter with Absalom, his sons were not taken care of the way a good father would take care of his children. He should have been the one teaching them the ways of the Lord, as God instructed him to through Moses.

APPLICATION
I cannot let someone else teach my children how to live a godly life. There are times that others need to give insight into my children, but it is my responsibility to make sure they follow the Lord.

PRAYER
Lord, my heart's desire is for my children to love and serve you. I will fail them, as David did, but Lord, as you had mercy on him with Solomon, would you have mercy on me and give my children hearts for you. Would you give me wisdom and understanding on how to be a good mother, teacher, encourager, and ultimately, friend. Thank you Lord, for showing me the perfect example of a loving Father. In Jesus's name, Amen.

Don't Be Like A Horse!

SCRIPTURE
Blessed is the man whose sin the Lord does not count against him and in whose spirit is no deceit.  When I kept silent my bones wasted away through my groaning all day long.  For day and night Your hand was heavy upon me.  My strength was sapped as the heat of summer.  Psalm 32

OBSERVATION
David fell in with Bathsheba.  However, the enemy uses much less subtle forms of sin on Christians in our day to day lives to grieve the Holy spirit in us.

APPLICATION
It's crazy to look back at different times of my life and track the times I was at the brink of burn-out.  During those times, the enemy works at changing kingdom priorities with man's inner desire priorities and before you know it you're burned out laboring for earthly things.  Big sin and small sin saps us and separates us from God and until I repented I would see finances, resources and lost time add up.

PRAYER
Don't be like the horse or the mule, which have no understanding, but must be controlled by bit and bridle (Psalm 32).  I confess my transgressions to You, Lord, as David did, and You forgave the guilt of my sin.

Prepare the Way

SCRIPTURE
“Now devote your heart & soul to seeking the Lord your God.  Begin to build the sanctuary of the Lord God, so that you may bring the ark of the convenant of the Lord and the sacred articles belonging to God into the temple that will be built for the name of the Lord.”    1 Chron. 22:19

OBSERVATION

David arranges for the building of the temple by his son Solomon.  David tells him about the word of the Lord given to him about building the temple. The Lord said the task was to be carried out by Solomon. David prepared the way for Solomon and he instructed him to seek the Lord in carrying out this task.

APPLICATION

Just as David paved the way for Solomon, we too pave the way for our children or for those training under our leadership by giving them the proper tools to “build their temple” unto the Lord by teaching them to pray, studying the word and making wise decisions in following the Lord.

PRAYER
Lord, just as David taught Solomon to be king & worship you with all his heart and to seek you, may I be that example to my child & others who are watching me.  Build your sanctuary within me that I may be a carrier of your presence God, in Jesus’ name, Amen.

Pleasing God? Or Men?

SCRIPTURE
We are not trying to please men, but God, who tests our hearts.
1 Thessalonians 2:3-4

OBSERVATION
How often do I try to please others?  It is a sometimes constant fight for focus to keep my eyes on Jesus.  The world has so many distractions and principles that are contrary to God's Word.  I thank Him for the tests that keep me coming to Him ONLY for approval.

APPLICATION
I will welcome God's inquiry into my heart as I strive to live to please Him.

PRAYER
Father God, You are in pursuit of my heart.  I pray that You never have to go far to get my attention.  Through Your Word, keep me sensitive to Your calling.  In Jesus' name, Amen!

Rock, Fortress, Deliverer

SCRIPTURE
“As for God, His way is perfect; the Word of the Lord is tried: He is a Shield to all those who trust and take refuge in Him."  2 Samuel 22:31.

OBSERVATION
I've found that this verse is quite simple in its meaning in that we never have to be afraid of anything the devil can throw at us.  God is our shield and will never forsake us, even in our most dire moment.

APPLICATION
In my life today, I can walk through the challenges and difficulties of this world and still God is ever there beside me.  Knowing this, I'm stronger in my faith, the devil's schemes to bring me down don't work, and I can stand with my feet firmly planted and know God has my back 100%

PRAYER
My God, who have I to still my fears but you?  Not a second goes by without your never-ending love to spur me on towards the goal.  Life is but a whisper of wind, and yet you have numbered the hairs on my head.  Thank you for your ever-extended hand of love.

Teach All Nations

SCRIPTURE
And Jesus came and spake unto them saying, "All power is given unto me in heaven and in Earth. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations. Baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost. Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I with you alway, even unto the end of the world."
Matthew 28:18-20 (KJV)

OBSERVATION
Everyone has a purpose here and this is the purpose. No Christian is exempt from this job. Until the Rapture, we will spread the Gospel.

APPLICATION
Every day, I must be an example to show people that God is the Light.

PRAYER
Lord, please help me set an example to everyone around me and help me not to be afraid to share Your Truth. Amen.

In God We trust!

SCRIPTURE Psalms 56:3-4
3 When I am afraid, I will trust in you.
4 In God, whose word I praise, in God I trust; I will not be afraid. What can mortal man do to me?
OBSERVATION
PHILADELPHIA - An unknown number of new George Washington dollar coins were mistakenly struck without their edge inscriptions, including “In God We Trust,” and are fetching around $50 apiece online. The properly struck dollar coins, bearing the likeness of the nation’s first president, are inscribed along the edge with “In God We Trust,” “E Pluribus Unum” and the year and mint mark. The flawed coins made it past inspectors and went into circulation Feb. 15, 2007. You might say how could this mistake been made! Do people forget about God or do they purposefully leave him out of their lives.

APPLICATION
David knew that it would be a grave mistake to trust in man instead of God. David came against a lot of enemies during his reign as King. He did not fear, because he knew that if God was for him who could be against him. No money, power or army could match God's greatness. David was on the winning side and was a mighty warrior because he trust in a mighty God.
PRAYER
Lord, help me to always trust in you. I pray for our nation, that they will repent and come back to you. There is no war that we can win without your help. You preserve us and keep us alive because of your grace. We do not trust in our wealth, position or power. We only trust in you. We know that you are a good God and we should fear you instead of fearing man. Teach us how to trust in you, and I pray for people who are trying to remove you from our country, communities and coins. We pray that you bring an awakening, so that they to could see your glory.

From My Mother's Womb

SCRIPTURE
Psalm 71:1-6
1 In you, O LORD, I have taken refuge; let me never be put to shame.
2 Rescue me and deliver me in your righteousness; turn your ear to me and save me.
3 Be my rock of refuge, to which I can always go; give the command to save me, for you are my rock and my fortress.
4 Deliver me, O my God, from the hand of the wicked, from the grasp of evil and cruel men.
5 For you have been my hope, O Sovereign LORD, my confidence since my youth.
6 From birth I have relied on you; you brought me forth from my mother's womb. I will ever praise you.

OBSERVATION
While growing up, the place for security and protection was always by my mother's side. reading Isaiah 66:10. God, the almighty Creator, always wants us, His creatures, to know Him and His love. In Scripture, God uses many different pictures and examples to reveal Himself to us. Isaiah 66:12-13 states, “As nurslings, you shall be carried in her arms, and fondled in her lap. As a mother comforts her son, so will I comfort you.” Here, God compares Himself to the image of a “human mother.” Not only that, he also uses the image of a “mother hen” to describe His protection for Israel, “how many times I yearned to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her young under her wings” (Matthew 23:37).
APPLICATION
God, loves all his children and has placed moms as protectors, teachers, nurturers and caregivers. They love us and forgive us without any hesitation. There are many moms that would rather give up their lives than see their children hurt. Mary loved Jesus and was a caring mom. She protected him and cared for him while he was growing up. I can't imagine what it was like for her to watch Jesus being crucified for us. Rather, than see us hurt and suffering he took the beatings on his back and suffered on the cross so that we would not have to. He gave his life so that we could have life and more abundantly.
PRAYER
Lord, thank you for your love and expressing that type of love through our mothers. Thank you for moms who care for our children and nurture them through sacrificial giving. I pray a special blessing for all the moms that are reading this blog this morning. I pray that you would grant them favor, honor and true joy.

I found a great hiding place!

SCRIPTURE Psalms 32:6-7
6 Therefore let everyone who is godly pray to you while you may be found; surely when the mighty waters rise, they will not reach him.
7 You are my hiding place; you will protect me from trouble and surround me with songs of deliverance.

OBSERVATION
Looking at this scripture you can tell that David just wanted to run away and hide. David calls God his hiding place. When it seems that everything around is going crazy there is one place you can get away from it all. God will protect you and deliver from the chaos. David talks about a place where nothing can touch him or bother him. Even in the midst of a storm or flood God can elevate you to a place where the storm will not harm you. I use to love playing hide and seek with my cousins while growing up. The fun part was finding that sweet hiding place that no one knew about and resting while people around you could not find you.

APPLICATION
Lord, it sounds like a game of hide and go seek. The scripture says to seek you while you may be found. Come to you when we want to hide. God I am so glad that you allow us to find you. We do not have to look too hard. Psalms 32 says that everyone that is godly can pray and you will be found. I hope that you will help me find you. Today, I took a walk through a walnut orchard and it was totally quite and very serene. While walking through the orchard I could feel your presence. There was no one around but I sensed you looking at me. I stopped and prayed in that orchard that you would reveal yourself to me and you did. Thank you for spending the time with me today, I needed that quite time!

PRAYER
Lord, thank you for showing revealing yourself to me today. I pray that we can play hide and go seek again. Thanks for taking time to search for me. Sometimes you are the only person that really wants to be around me. People want stuff from me but you want to bless me. I pray that people would seek your face and find you today! I want to be like David who had his heart after you. David knew, that if he was going to be blessed he would have to go seek you out! I pray that you will continue to reaveal more our yourself to us.

Don't be alarmed!

SCRIPTURE Matthew 24:4-7
4Jesus answered: "Watch out that no one deceives you. 5For many will come in my name, claiming, 'I am the Christ,[a]' and will deceive many. 6You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come. 7Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in various places. 8All these are the beginning of birth pains.

OBSERVATION
We know that Jesus said, Watch out." There are so many people that claim to know the answers to our dilemmas. "The end" is not yet
Rather than answering the disciples' questions on their terms, Jesus used the occasion to teach them three important things. One, he taught them that the scenario they were asking about was much more complicated than their simplistic notions. Two, they could not know when Jesus would "come," or as we would say, "return." Three, they should worry about or "watch" their relationship with God and not worry about "watching" world or local events. Let's not be alarmed but keep ourselves close to God. If you are worrying about world events. God is saying Peace be still. Eventhough, we know that things are getting worse the best thing to do is concern yourself with your relationship with Christ. This is just the beginning of what will come.

APPLICATION
I want to be concern about my relationship with you and know that I am in right standing with you. Basically, the "sign" of Jesus' coming, as he gave it, was his coming! There is a lesson here for us. Quite simply, there is no advance sign of Jesus' coming for us to be able to predict. He comes when he comes, and the people who are then alive will know it when it happens. I do not want to get carried away with false prophets and false predictions. We need to meet with God daily rest in his presence. Do not be alarmed! Things are going to get better.

PRAYER
Lord, we know that there are so many people that have been suffering because of this economy, and we pray for them. We pray that you will help them out of this turmoil. We pray that people will come closer to you. We know that things are going to get better and that you are doing mircales in people lives. Lord, I pray that people will trust you and come closer to you. You are the only person that can save us.

The Joy of Salvation

SCRIPTURE Palms 51:10-13
10 Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.
11 Do not cast me from your presence or take your Holy Spirit from me.
12 Restore to me the joy of your salvation and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me.
13 Then I will teach transgressors your ways, and sinners will turn back to you.

OBSERVATION
David said this prayer after the Prophet Nathan came to him and rebuked him for committing adultery with Bathsheba and murdering her husband. David had everything he wanted. He had power, prestige, wealth and all types of luxuries, but David wanted more. The times that we are living our like this. Americans want more of the world and they lust for things they can not have! Even though, we have been blessed it seems that our eyes continue to fall on things that our not ours. For those of us who have experienced moral failure, divorce, or other such life experience, it is a message of hope, healing, and restoration that reminds us that God's agenda is not to crush sinners under his feet, but to heal them and restore their relationship with Him.

APPLICATION
We love stories with perfect, happy endings, and we want sin forgiven without consequence. In reality, we can be forgiven for breaking the window, but we still have to sweep up the broken glass and repair the window. There are consequences to our actions, and like it or not, we must coexist with those consequences, just as David did. God is faithful to help us through the restoration and the process of healing. David called out to God and asked him to do the following; do not cast me from your presence and do not take your Holy Spirit from me. Are we desiring his presence and Holy Spirit more than the things of the world? When it comes down to it, that's all I really have!
PRAYER
Lord, I desire you more than what this world has to offer. I desire your Holy Spirit and to be in your presence. Use me to turn people back to you as David did. Lord if you can restore David for his sins you can restore anyone. Help me not to judge people but to love them into the Kingdom. You want to create a right spirit and restore the joy of your salvation to all of us sinners.

Help is on the way!

SCRIPTURE
Psalm 20
For the director of music. A psalm of David. 1 May the LORD answer you when you are in distress; may the name of the God of Jacob protect you.
2 May he send you help from the sanctuary and grant you support from Zion.

OBSERVATION
David knew that he could always call on God! Most people get embarrassed to say that they need help. I personally, rather loose my dignity than my integrity. I have learned like David that God knows when you are in distress and he is waiting for you to call him. We do not need to hide our needs from our family especially not the father. Remember that the God of Jacob was there for him during his time of famine and during his time of plenty. Jacob's son Joseph was used to help his family make it through some very tough times. God was faithful to Jacob and helped him survive 7 years of famine.

APPLICATION
I believe that you can call out to God for any reason. Families all around the world our suffering through hard times and need help. The church is there to support these that are in need. We saw hundreds of people come to the WOW Jam to pick up a bag of groceries or get a hot dog. There are so many people that are in distress. I want to be used by God to be his right hand. Psalms 20:6 Now I know that the LORD saves his anointed; he answers him from his holy heaven with the saving power of his right hand.
PRAYER
Lord, I pray that you would use me to be your hands that reach out to people. I pray that I would be your feet. I want to carry the message of the gospel (good news) to people who are hurting and are in distress. I pray for people this morning that need your help, give them your provision and protection from these difficult times.

David's Prayer

SCRIPTURE 2 Samuel 2:18
David's Prayer 18 Then King David went in and sat before the LORD, and he said: "Who am I, O Sovereign LORD, and what is my family, that you have brought me this far? 19 And as if this were not enough in your sight, O Sovereign LORD, you have also spoken about the future of the house of your servant. Is this your usual way of dealing with man, O Sovereign LORD ?
20 "What more can David say to you? For you know your servant, O Sovereign LORD. 21 For the sake of your word and according to your will, you have done this great thing and made it known to your servant.

OBSERVATION
I believe that David was amazed and in shock that the Almighty God would pay so much attention to him. David felt humbled and curious why God would choose him and his family to exalt. David called himself a servant and humbled himself even though he was anointed King. It doesn't matter what position we have. We need to recognize that we are very lucky to be called his servants. God is the only one that knows are future and can exalt whoever he wants to. So many times we forget that the only person in charge of our future is God almighty.

APPLICATION
Teach me to be humble like David, eventhough you have brought us to a place of leadership. People all around me, do not know that I am nothing but a servant. So many times we want to put people on their peddalstools and honor the person that God has sent, but it is God who we need to lift up. The word says that if we lift up the name of Jesus all men would be drawn unto him.
PRAYER
Lord, I pray that you will continue to recognize me as your servant and will use me to fullfill your plan. I pray that you will reveal your will and your destiny for our lives. Please help us to trust you, because you are the only one that knows our future.
