What's Your Motive?

SCRIPTURE
Ask all the people of the land and the priests, When you fasted and mourned in the fifth and seventh months for the past seventy years, was it really for me that you fasted? Zechariah 7:5


OBSERVATION
God was giving a motive check here. What was the true purpose for their fast? Were they fasting unto the Lord, or were they fasting out of obligation, religion?


APPLICATION
This scripture is significant as we're in the midst of our 40 days of fasting, Fasting for Breakthrough. This scripture has made me to check my motives. What is the reason for my fast? Is it because it's a church wide fast? Honestly, the length of my fast is likely due to the 40 day corporate fast, but the reason...Personal Breakthrough, Corporate Breakthrough, etc. It's not out of obligation or a religious thing, but rather something that God has called me to do for this specific time.

PRAYER
Father, help me to continually check my motives. Whatever I do, I want to do unto you and not because of some sense of obligation. I pray for real breakthrough to happen over the remainder of these 40 days.
