Putting a Square Peg in a Round Hole

SCRIPTURE
(Mark 1:16&17) "And as He was going along by the Sea of Galilee, He saw Simon and Andrew, the brother of Simon, casting a net in the sea; for they were fishermen. And Jesus said to them, 'Follow Me, and I will make you become fishers of men.'"

OBSERVATION
Most Jewish men who were considered Rabbis, chose their followers or disciples from among the most learned. There were certain qualities of academia and self-discipline that the teacher was looking for in his students. Most of Jesus' disciples were common, uneducated laborers. In the acceptable norm of the culture, Jesus was putting square pegs, so to speak, in round holes. His disciples just didn't fit the norm.

APPLICATION
Jesus is still not a respector of persons. He is not looking for external verification of adequacy. Jesus is looking at the heart, and a willingness to be used to further His Kingdom. He still uses just common people to achieve the miraculous. This square peg fits in the round hole when it is placed in the Master's hand.

PRAYER
Lord, shape me into whatever You need me to be to achieve Your Kingdom's work. I am a willing peg!
